The Goal Is Excellence

Volume 29 - September 2008

Stepping into the role of Executive Director, I envision Halton Women's Place becoming an agency that continues to build on our long-standing relationships in the community, as well as creating new partnerships throughout the Region. All of our activities - be they services to women and children, human resources, fundraising or responding to calls - will be measured in outcomes. The outcome is excellence in all that we do, in all that we are and in all that we stand for. As the new Executive Director my immediate and highest priority will be to provide strong, honest and integral leadership to our employees, volunteers and community partners.

Volunteers are highly valued at Halton Women's Place

We, at Halton Women's Place, are so thankful for all of our volunteers - from front line and child & youth volunteers to event volunteers and committee members. We could not continue to provide the services we do without your support.

Halton Women's Place volunteers provide much needed donations to the agency - donations of their time and expertise. Over the Holiday season, our volunteers logged over 760 hours to assist us with programming needs and Holiday Program support.

We have volunteers helping with admin support, front line volunteers answering the phones and a wonderful volunteer who is painting the interior of the Burlington shelter for us. It is hard to imagine what these services would cost the agency if the volunteers were not there.

Our volunteers are truly priceless. If you would like to join this caring group of individuals, please contact Carm Bozzo, Development Manager at cbozzo@haltonwomensplace.com or 905-332-1200 x 222. The next volunteer orientation sessions will be held in April. We are always interested in the many ways in which people would like to help Halton Women's Place using their talents and skills!

Community Donations and Halton Women's Place

Halton Women's Place is very fortunate to have a strong support base in all of our communities. We have been able to support all of the women and children who access our services through your financial contributions, donations of food, toiletries, new clothing and new toys. For this we will always remain thankful to everyone for their generosity and spirit of giving.

We have posting boards in each shelter where notices of used furniture, appliances, glassware and other household goods are placed. If you have donations of this nature, please call us and we can post the items in both locations. It is up to our residents who are leaving to contact the donors and make arrangements for pick-up. The items posted on this board are most definitely appreciated by the women. Drop-off donations at both shelters are hard for us to manage due to lack of storage space. Used cribs and stuffed animals provide a health and safety issue for us within the shelter because they must meet safety standards. We ask that anyone who has items of this nature that they wish to donate - please call us first.

On behalf of the women, children and staff at Halton Women's Place, thank you for the support (both financial and in kind) that allows us to keep our doors open. Your donations provide hope for a safer tomorrow and show our women and children that their community supports them.

Halton Women's Place — Donor Bill of Rights

PHILANTHROPY is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. 1. To be informed of the organization's mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.

2. To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organizations governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgement in its stewardship responsibilities.

3. To have access to the organization's most recent financial annual audited statements.

4. To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.

5. To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition

6. To be assured that information about their donation is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by the law.

7. To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.

8. To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors.

9. To be assured that Halton Women's Place will not rent, sell, trade or share its donor mailing lists.

10. To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.
