Safe Shelter Campaign

Safe Shelter Sponsors

The staff, volunteers and Board of Directors at Halton Women's Place know that we could not do the work that we do without the generosity of our community supporters. Not only do they support the women and children through financial donations but also by assisting us in creating more awareness about our programs and services.

In this issue, we are happy to feature one of our biggest donors - Canadian Tire, Burlington. Since 2005 three Canadian Tire stores - Guelph Line, Plains Road and Appleby Line, have banded together to raise approximately $10,000 for Halton Women's Place. Although the Plains Road store has just recently closed, we are still greatly supported by the two remaining stores in Burlington.

Through Christmas tree sales and their annual bike program, these stores have done a fantastic job in working with us in our goal to have every woman and child live a violence free life.

It makes remarkable difference to us to know that a large company like Canadian Tire knows and appreciates the important work that we do and also is dedicated to supporting and enhancing the lives of the vulnerable women and their dependant children who use our services every day. At every level of the company they understand that abuse has no boundaries and with us they are helping us to meet the needs of Halton's growing, diverse population.

In addition to our Burlington Canadian Tire stores, we have three Oakville stores that participate in the same manner and raise an annual amount of $5,000. What an amazing demonstration of a community based company!

Regrettably, in our February 2008 newsletter, we mistakenly placed Canadian Tire's contribution in the wrong category and we sincerely apologize for the error. We truly value and appreciate the dedicated efforts and financial contribution given by these Canadian Tire stores.

The Karen Shank Foundation was formed in 2005 to commemorate and celebrate the life of a strong woman who made an impact in her community. What better way to carry on her spirit than by supporting the courageous women of Halton Women’s Place. We are proud to provide HWP with monetary and voluntary support as we follow our mission to raise awareness of the many needs in our local community and to promote participation through volunteering in our every day lives.

For two years, the Karen Shank Foundation has dedicated one of its two major fundraising events to Halton Women’s Place. In addition, we have also worked to provide numerous volunteer hours as needed by the shelter, such as several KSF-sponsored Holiday Hamper Days. Through our volunteer activities with HWP, we hope to bring a face to this important community organization and to make a visible connection between our efforts and a positive outcome of which there is vital need.

When asked about their partnership with HWP, Operations Manager JoAnn Jusdanis said, " As part of a national initiative, the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation, a public foundation, has worked with over 150 shelters located in small and large communities across Canada, raising over $4 million in the past six years. We at Royal LePage Burloak Real Estate Services uphold our company's national effort to assist shelters serving women and children fleeing violence by supporting our local shelter, Halton Women's Place.

Throughout the year, our sales people and staff hold various fundraising events such as an annual charity golf tournament, an "Amazing Race" scavenger hunt, a company BBQ dunk tank, a Mortgage Intelligence Golf Day with Lessons, a Halloween Chili Party, Thanksgiving & Christmas Turkey Draws as well as sales representative's commission based donations.

"Our year-round commitment to supporting Halton Women's Place takes on a special meaning at Royal LePage Burloak Real Estate Services during the month of May", explains JoAnn. " What better time to bring attention to this issue than during a month when all mothers are honored and celebrated. It's especially important to remember the mothers who are going through some of the most difficult times of their lives, often with their children, and the shelters who provide outstanding support to them."

On May 9, 2005, Royal LePage Burloak Real Estate Services Sales Representatives and Staff presented Halton Women's Place with a cheque for $10,500.
