Ways to Support Halton Women's Place
Halton Women's Place is always in need of, and gratefully accepts, donations of gift certificates and food vouchers. Halton Women's Place values our donors. Please review our Donor Bill of Rights Policy for details. Gift Certificates When children come to the shelter with their mom it is important that they receive the support they need from our Child and Youth Counsellors, but it is also important that they have time to just be kids! When a child celebrates their birthday while staying at the shelter we try our best to provide them with special memories of a fun day! Gift certificates to local book, music and clothing stores as well as movie passes are a great way for you to help us give these children a special day. Some suggestions for possible stores to purchase gift certificates include:
Food Vouchers Halton Women's Place relies on food donations from the public. By providing food vouchers from local grocery stores, you will allow us to make special food purchases for our residents. This could be for a celebration or just for a hearty home-cooked meal. Some suggestions for possible stores to purchase food vouchers include:
Teens for Teens Program The Teens for Teens program is based on the idea that teens know best what they like. We are asking high school students to donate gifts to our Holiday Program that they themselves would like to receive or to purchase gift certificates for their favourite stores. We are often left scrambling for gifts for teens who have or who are staying in the shelter. Your support of this program will mean that we can provide some measure of happiness to our teens in a time that is often filled with sadness. Sponsor a Child With over 60% of our residents being children, Halton Women's Place Children's Program is a crucial piece of the work we do to end violence against women. In December 2003, Statistics Canada released a survey that indicated that one in twelve children, aged four to seven, had witnessed some form of physical violence at home. This, along with the statistic that 65% of children that were abused at a young age develop abusive behaviour in the future proves that the need for a Halton Women's Place Children's Program is necessary. In 2005, we launched "Sponsor a Child" as part of the Safe Shelter Campaign. This campaign offers companies and individuals the opportunity to sponsor a child during their six-week stay at Halton Women's Place. With a gift of $596.40, you will give a child in your community a chance to break the cycle of violence. Your support will enable our Child and Youth Counsellors to enhance the work they do with children and youth that come to our shelters with their mom. Through one-to-one counselling, group counselling, therapeutic play, safety planning, healthy meals and time to just be kids your generous gift will make a significant difference in our young residents' lives. $14.20/day Become a Monthly Donor Become part of a very special group. Giving monthly is one of the strongest statements of commitment you can make and enables your donation to go even further. Monthly support is so important to Halton Women's Place because we can count on your gift and plan ahead. It is a cost-effective, reliable and consistent source of funding for Halton Women's Place. A gift of $10, $20 or $30 (just $1 a day) will make a difference, and ensure that women and children leaving abusive homes have a safe place to turn. Make a Legacy Gift Support Halton Women's Place by making a legacy gift contribution from your will, life insurance policy or as a gift annuity to provide a safe place for women and children leaving violence and to help diminish violence against women and children. Help Hope Grow The Daisy of Hope Campaign is a province-wide public awareness and fund raising initiative aimed at bringing awareness to the work that shelters and staff do 365 days a year, 24 hours a day around the issue of domestic abuse. Since taking root in 1999, the campaign has grown to include more than 30 shelters across Ontario. The daisy is a symbol of love and hope. We would like to thank our past participants who gave all of us here hope by placing a daisy box in their locations as well as wearing a pin. Our goal this year is to increase awareness by welcoming more community partners to our Daisy Campaign team. Together, we can make a difference! If you are interested in more information about the Daisy of Hope Campaign or would like to become a Daisy Campaign community partner, please contact 905-332-1200. Safe Shelter Campaign Halton Women's Place works hard to develop and maintain positive relationships with businesses in the Halton Region and we are proud of the many partnerships that have evolved over the years. These companies play an important role in our mission to eliminate violence against women and their children. In October, 2005 we marked a momentous occasion - 25 years of programs and services in the Halton Region. From an old century home with 14 beds to two shelters and 50 beds, we certainly have come a long way. We have also made great strides in educating our children and the general public about domestic violence and its effects on children and families. This campaign offers companies the opportunity to sponsor a room, including bedrooms, a communal living room, kitchen or child and youth room. Through this campaign, you will position your company as one that is recognized as taking a lead role in ending violence against women and children. Your sponsorship will show your commitment to creating healthy relationships and healthy communities. Together we will make a difference! Safe Shelter Campaign details.
