Volunteer Opportunities

"Get Involved, Make a Difference"

At Halton Women's Place our volunteers make ALL the difference. With limited staff our volunteers provide much needed support and assist us in providing services to abused women and their dependent children.

To be a volunteer you need to:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Attend a volunteer orientation session (held 3 times a year - January, April and September)
  • Provide us with a current Police Check
  • Three references
  • Complete a TB Test, within the last 2 years.

Our volunteer opportunities are:

Auction Planning Committee

The Auction Planning Committee is the driving force behind the Halton Women's Place Gala Dinner and Auction, held in March. The committee meets at minimum monthly from September through March. If you are interested in planning and organizing our largest fundraiser or for more information about this committee, please call Christina Mackay at 905-332-1200, ext. 244 or email her at cmackay@haltonwomensplace.com


Front Line Volunteers

This position allows volunteers to assist the front line counselors by providing reception assistance. Duties can include: answering phones, greeting the public, receiving donations, documenting calls and maintaining client confidentiality.


Child & Youth Volunteers

This position assists the youth (toddlers to teens) in the shelter and makes their time spent here a little brighter. During the day this involves assisting our child and youth counselors with their programming. In the evening volunteers plan and implement an activity (ie. Crafts) for those in the shelter.


Special Events Volunteers

Special event volunteers assist with Halton Women's Place events and community awareness events throughout Halton Region. There are a variety of events during the year. If you don't have much time to volunteer this occasional position might be just right for you.


Administration Support

Needed during our busy event season, assists staff with follow-up calls, photocopying and filing. The time commitment ideally is 2-3 hours per week, during business hours.


Drivers

During our busy holiday hamper and event seasons we occasionally need drivers to assist us with pick ups. If this is something you have the spare time to assist with please contact Christina directly.
